:bulletblue: Phantomscream slowly cracked open her eyes, unused to the feel of a body pressed against hers. She glanced to her side, spotting Cricketleap curled up next to her, her back pressed against the tabby's flank. The warrior sighed and gave a smile, trying not to move so she wouldn't disturb her friend. Then her mind clouded with thoughts of what had woken her in the first place and Phantomscream growled low in her throat.

:bulletgreen: Cricketleap stirred from a black, peaceful sleep as she heard rustling at her side.  She blinked her eyes opened and stretched luxuriously, pressing herself closer to the warm body at her back.  Her head turned slowly to see a sliver of blue flashing against Phantomscream's face.  She smiled and gave her friend a few lazy licks between her ears, murmuring, "Can't sleep?"  The den was still wrapped in darkness, with only a few thin beams of moonlight shining through the leaves.  "It's not even morning."

:bulletblue: "N-no." Phantomscream muttered, body tensing slight as Cricketleap delivered soothing licks to her ears. Well, they would have been soothing had the silver she-cat not been wound tight from a fading dream and the warmth of the cat she loved pressing against her. "It was a d-dream that woke me up." She slithered a bit, trying to go unnoticed as she scooted slightly toward her brother, Saltfur's back.

:bulletgreen: Cricketleap's face was split by a wide yawn as Phantomscream spoke.  She blinked sleepily, cocking her head and mewing, "Dream?  Was it a bad dream or something?"  As the silver warrior adjusted, the younger cat's body moved with her, naturally searching for the warm she provided.

:bulletblue: Face twisting into that of a grimace, Phantomscream quit her fidgeting and decided not to move until the new warrior was asleep again. "Can't remember much now," She lied, sucking in a deep breath and exhaling hard through her nose. "Try and go back to sleep, Cricketleap. I'm sorry for waking you."

:bulletgreen: The young she-cat blinked as Phantomscream dismissed her question.  Something seemed to be bothering the silver tabby...but it couldn't have been anything too serious.  She would've told Cricketleap if there was something wrong.  Cricketleap shrugged, settling back into her nest and sighing, "Alright then."  She reached out a gentle paw to bat her friend's nose sleepily.  "Tell me if anything's up, ok?"

:bulletblue: "Of course." She murmured, flinching slightly as Cricketleap's paw met her nose. Her breath left in one deep whoosh and she screwed her eyes shut against the rise of emotion in her chest. Block it out, she thought to herself. Phantomscream took another deep breath and waited for sleep to take her.

:bulletgreen: When Cricketleap woke, sunlight streamed in through the den entrance.  With a stretch and a yawn, she looked to the nest beside her and realized that Phantomscream had already left.  She frowned in confusion--normally, her friend would wake her up to say goodbye.  She came to her feet, shook out her fur, and stepped into the camp clearing.  "Uh, Phantom...?" she called uncertainly, still blinking the sleep from her eyes.

:bulletblue: "She went out on the dawn patrol,” Risewing mewed as he padded up, bumping his hip into Cricketleap's side. Giving a grin, he lifted a paw and gave it a dainty lick. "She looked a little eager to get out of camp too. You two lovebirds have a catfight?"

:bulletgreen: Cricketleap growled and swatted the back of Risewing's head.  Her brother let out an indignant cough as she stalked away, rolling her eyes and grumbling, "Don't you have birds to chase?"  She reached the camp entrance and took a deep breath--Phantomscream's familiar scent was still strong.  She couldn't have gone far.  She trotted into the forest, hoping to catch up for a quick patrol with the silver tabby.

:bulletblue: Phantomscream had insisted on leaving the camp; and leaving it alone. Pallidstar had granted her permission to go on her own hunting patrol, obviously catching on to her desire to escape. So her she was, out in the woods, with only a measly bird for show. "Come on!" She snarled at herself, fur fluffing up in agitation.

:bulletgreen: Cricketleap's ears pricked as she heard a frustrated hiss ring out a ways in front of her.  Her steps quickened as she called, "Phantomscream?"  She pressed through the bushes, her friend's silver pelt coming in sight.  A crooked smile stretched over her face as she watched a bird flutter away from the tabby's claws.  "Uh...having some trouble?"

:bulletblue: Every muscle in Phantomscream's body locked into place a the sound of Cricketleap's voice. "Oh for the love of Starclan.." she whimpered, turning her head to spot the red she-cat padding closer. "Only a bit!" She smiled tightly, digging her claws from the mud.

:bulletgreen: Something is off, Cricketleap realized in confusion.  She tilted her head and took a hesitant step forward, studying Phantomscream's guarded face.  She couldn't imagine what was bothering the she-cat...could it be something about her old Clan? "You seem a little jumpy."

:bulletblue: "Do I?" She panted, trying to catch her breath. She chuckled and shrugged her shoulders, as if shrugging away the problem Cricketleap clearly saw. "I'm simply having a bad hunting day, is all." Phantomscream amended, licking down a stray tuft of fur.

:bulletgreen: Cricketleap's frown deepened.  She approached Phantomscream while she was busy taming her fur, brushing her tail along the tabby's flank when she came close enough.  She ducked her head until she was at eye level with her friend.  "It's not just that.  You seem off."

:bulletblue: The fur along Phantomscream's spine bristled involuntarily, a strange feeling spiking into her gut. She knew that feeling. Lust. The silver warrior swallowed, forcing her fur to flatten before Cricketleap noticed. Her thick tail twitched behind her as she drew away slightly. "Off? That's ridiculous."

:bulletgreen: "That!  You're pulling back!"  Cricketleap sat down, her concern deepening.  It was random and unnerving for her best friend to act so touchy around her.  She sighed quietly and smiled at Phantomscream, mewing softly, "Look, if you need some time to yourself, that's ok.  Just remember that you can always talk to me.  Alright?"

:bulletblue: "I'm not pulling back!" Phantomscream muttered petulantly, this time letting her fur bristle. She let the anger destroy her unwanted emotions, let it take over her actions for just a brief second. "I said I was fine, so quit bothering me about it!" She snapped. Then her face fell and her tail drooped. "I'm fine, okay? Just, I need to hunt. Go do something with Risewing or Batshade."

:bulletgreen: Cricketleap's ears fell flat against her head and she recoiled.  She was hurt at Phantomscream's sudden outburst.  She had been trying to comfort her friend, and it only seemed to make things worse.  A touch of resentment mixed with her unhappiness as she came to her feet, her stance defensive.  "Fine.  I'll leave."  She turned and added in a low voice, "Maybe Risewing will have some room in his nest tonight."

:bulletblue: Phantomscream instantly regretted her words as hurt pooled in Cricketleap's pretty green eyes. She opened her jaws to apologize but the red warrior was already talking, her pain hidden under a mask of defensive unhappiness. "Maybe he will," She replied instead, voice sour with annoyance. Of course, not at Cricketleap. At herself. She turned her back on her friend and stalked away.

:bulletgreen: Cricketleap was confused at the strength of her feelings as Phantomscream walked away.  The breath in her throat caught and something in her chest seemed to tighten.  She stumbled back a bit, watching her friend's silver pelt grow fainter and fainter until it disappeared.  Without quite realizing what she was doing, she opened her mouth a bit to catch the last traces of her scent, finding comfort mixing with depression as the smell faded away.

:bulletblue: Phantomscream snarled into the quiet air, rearing back on her haunches to swipe angrily at a tree. Her claws dug through the bark and pain shot through her foot as she snagged a claw. "Damnit!" The warrior hissed, dropping back to all fours and letting out a trembling breath. "How long?" Her voice shook, edged with unbidden emotions. "How long can I stay close to her?" Phantomscream lifted her muzzle and parted her jaws, letting her wail ring out into the air. "HOW LONG?!"
