She definitely has some “big sister” instincts when it comes to her siblings, or any other kit in the nursery. If ever they’re scared or sad, she’ll do whatever she can to cheer them up. She can appear to be somewhat crude about it—her idea of cheering up is cracking jokes, roughhousing, and painting the parents to be the bad guys. She has a huge soft spot for anyone smaller or younger than she is, so she can’t stand seeing her nest-mates unhappy.

Humorous
Adults rarely see this side of her, but around her fellow kits, she’s a big clown. She’s a fan of slapstick and jokes that come at the expense of others. For example, she’ll often make the other kits laugh by imitating a scolding queen’s face. This trait is usually seen as disrespectful, so she’s been reprimanded for her tricks on several occasions.

This is her cardinal trait. She has an intense dislike for authority, whether it be the queens of the nursery or the higher-ups in ShadowClan. Even if her superiors are asking simple things of her (like to sit still while being groomed), she refuses to quietly obey. Much of her rebelliousness comes from a desire for attention, but it is also due to her dislike for the structured ways of Clan life.

Spiteful
When she’s angry, she’ll vocalize it and be as mean as possible while doing so. She is usually only spiteful with adults (she has a “kids vs. adults” outlook on life). She tries to pick out the cruelest things she could possibly say and use it against whoever has made her angry. For example, if Phantomscream were to make her mad, she would tell her mother that she wasn’t a real ShadowClan cat due to her ThunderClan origins.

History

Pre-birth
Smearkit’s mother Phantomscream was falling in love with her soon-to-be-mate Cricketleap when she met Badger. Her feelings for Cricketleap were leaving her feeling vulnerable. Badger, a hulking, grouchy, yet sympathetic rogue stumbled across her while she was alone. She confided in him, and in her weakened emotional state, ultimately mated with him. Shortly after, her relationship with Cricketleap began, and the two enjoyed several carefree days enjoying one another. Their levity was brought to an end when Batshade diagnosed Phantomscream’s pregnancy. The realization was hard to come to terms with, but after overcoming their fears, the two she-cats resolved to stay together to bring up the kits.

Smearkit’s life as a kit of ShadowClan is just beginning. She’s learning more about the world with each passing day. She quickly discovered her incompatibility with Cricketleap, resenting her adoptive mother for no particular reason. She rebels against Phantomscream simply for the purpose of drawing attention. Despite how infrequently she sees her father, she admires Badger and envies his responsibility-free lifestyle as a loner. Of all her siblings, she is the closest to Sirenkit. She feels that her other siblings are too well-behaved.

Cricketleap leaned into Batshade a bit when he nuzzled her ear. She let out a quiet purr of appreciation, before sighing, "Happy...?" Her mind wandered, bringing her back to Rarity's shining blue eyes and rose-soft fur. But with those memories came others: She recalled Phantomscream's shining eyes as the silver tabby called her name after her warrior ceremony; she saw Batshade's accepting smile as she told him her deepest secret; she remembered Risewing's constant support; and she realized that there had only ever been one life for her. Slowly, her eyes lit up, and she turned to Batshade with a small smile forming over her muzzle. "Yeah. I think I am happy." She looked into the shady pines surrounding them and continued, "How could I have thought of leaving? This is where I belong."
